Love Bites!

Love Bites: How to cover up the dreaded hickey...or cause some jealously with a fake one!

Nothing betrays a lust-driven make-out session more than the dreaded hickey. Normally associated with the bragging rituals of teenage boys, the love bite is a bruise caused by sucking and biting on the skin.

Often despised, they are mostly just embarrassing, especially for those who have graduated high school and are in the work force. Nobody wants to be the subject of office gossip, so if your mark of affection is on your neck, then you've got to some thinking to do as turtlenecks work well in cooler months, but any other time they're a dead giveaway.

Riffin' Beauty: Love Bites!

How avoid OR create a scandal:

Plan A: Catch It Right Away
- If you catch it right away, diminish the bruise by using an icepack or a spoon that's been placed in the freezer to massage the area until numb.
- Put some pressure on it with a lipstick or balm cap to press and twist to help disperse the blood back where it came from.
- If needed you can apply either stick deodorant or toothpaste for about 5 minutes to fade what's left.

Plan B: The Morning After
- If you didn't notice until you woke up, then it's most likely too late for Plan A.
- Use professional quality camouflage makeup like the Kryolan Dermacolor Mini-Palette #5086. Using your finger, dab greenish shades to cancel redness and peachy-salmon shades to cancel blue.
- Once the "mask" layer is complete, use the various flesh tones to adjust the color closer to your complexion. Remember to pat with your finger, don't rub!
- Set with a colorless setting powder (baby powder works fine too).

Plan C: The Fake Hickey
- Make your "ex" jealous by using Mehron's ProColoring Bruise Wheel, which has the special effects shades needed to make yourself a realistic looking hickey.
- To make a "fresh" hickey, use the red and blue tones to create the bruising (the green and yellow tones are useful for making an older fading bruise). The color should not look too opaque, and don't overblend!
- Create some capillary texture with a small brush or stipple sponge.
- Set lightly with powder (makeup products in this story available at alconeco.com)
