Not ready for real ink? Fake it!
There was a time when anyone sporting a fake tattoo would be relegated pronto to poseur status. Times have changed, especially with new and improved ways to give yourself a tattoo that looks real to everyone else, but will leave your fickle heart singing with delight. After all, what's more rebellious than jettisoning commitments, especially permanent ones? As long as you wear it with confidence and possess a good sense of humor, temporary tattoos can be the perfect solution for looking the part.
The fastest and easiest way to "get your body art on" is to use a pre-made tattoo design, like professional quality Tinsley Transfers. They have various styles including today's sensation- the nautical star, as well as tribal, skulls and vintage art. The designs are believable in size and shading so they don't look fake. Best of all, they apply with water, so anyone can do it. If you follow their instructions carefully, your tat can last up to three days, which is great for overnight dates or music festivals! Check them out at tinsleytransfers.com
Prefer freehand tattoos or perhaps just gagging to be GG Allin for Halloween this year? Try using K.D. 151's Tattoo Pens. Each comes with three tip sizes, from thin to thick so you can get as detailed as your heart on your sleeve desires. They also come in several colors, but for authentic badass prison-style tattoos, use the Aged Ink shade. Check them out at alconeco.com
Regardless of your choice, there are some general tips for applying any fake tat:
- Start with clean, dry skin. Do not use makeup or body moisturizer under the tattoo.
- Swab area lightly with alcohol to remove any excess oils, as oil from the body will clog your pen tips.
- After applying transfers or finalizing your freehand design, set gently with a colorless setting powder.
- Lightly spray with a matte sealer like Ben Nye Final Seal for longer wear. Be careful not saturate the design with spray, as it will deteriorate the design. Available at alconeco.com
- To remove your tattoo before it wears off, simply rub with alcohol until gone.
