Hercules and Love Affair

With a flourish of glitter and a dash of cocaine, blogging sensation Hercules and Love Affair ushers you into the shimmering, rotating lights and mirrored walls of Studio 54 with his new delectably groovesome blend of classic disco, early house and contemporary techno.
But Hercules and Love Affair isn’t only a throw-back to the golden days of disco—New York based front-man Andy Butler weaves 80’s electronic synth-pop culture into this refreshing debut with repetitive keyboard lines and light boyish vocals. Songs like “This is My Love” bring back remembrances of The Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, as well as a tiny glimmering hint of Debbie Harry’s “Rapture,” just to glam it up.
This smashing debut features the soaring vocals of Antony Hegarty of Antony and The Johnsons, which mesh surprisingly well with Hercules and Love Affair’s signature retro sound. Of course, Andy and his bunch do contemporize things a bit with jazzy horns and some exotic percussion, but “Hercules and Love Affair” remains true to the hedonistic thrill that disco signifies.
