Earth and Sun and Moon by Midnight Oil
Midnight Oil was known both for their alternative rock presence and their political activism. Their staged shows included lively and intense crowd pleasing theatrics, and their lyrics talked of social inequality.
"Earth and Sun and Moon" was released in 1993 at the time when grunge was bursting out of the American Northwest. This album followed their wildly successful release "Blue Sky Mining."
The opening song "Feeding Frenzy" introduces their monumental album with deep riffs, quick guitars and thick vocals, all of which combine to warn of living a life merely based on pleasure: "Ah, sweet sensation, the oldest temptation ... Truth and fiction must collide someday."
The rest of the album continues to promote a political consciousness to the backbeat of tried and true rock. While the album may be dated, neither the sound nor the themes presented live in the past.
